Rankings
in the first table, listing public relations firms by
numbers of stock market clients, are overall quite comparable
this quarter to last, although there has been a shuffle
round at the top. Number two last quarter, Buchanan
Communications, has moved up to number one as predicted
last time round, with 124 listed clients, ahead of Financial
Dynamics (116) and Weber Shandwick/Square Mile (105),
which have moved into second and third places respectively
from their previous positions as third and first. Only
the first three can boast a client list in three figures.
Brunswick stays in slot number four. Tavistock Communications,
which did not figure in last quarter's published tables,
comes in eleventh place.
PR
firms with clients making the most profit are shown
in the second table. Here Brunswick has held onto its
lead, its clients showing a hefty £10,806.6 million
in pre tax profits. Second again is Financial Dynamics,
with £7,334.2 million. Third, fourth, fifth and
sixth places are unchanged from last quarter, and there
are only slight moves in the rest of the table. Tavistock
appears again at number eleven.
Tavistock,
however, has taken the fifth place in the first of the
two 'growth' tables, which ranks the firms according
to fastest growing clients. Top spot in this table is
again held by Lansons Communications as it was last
quarter; Binns & Co Public Relations is similarly
unchanged in second place. Weber Shandwick/Square Mile
has climbed two places to come in at number three, while
Hudson Sandler has fallen back from three to four. The
rest of the chart shows only slight shifts in position,
but it is noticeable that only first-placed Lansons
can demonstrate a client list with a positive growth
figure.
The
same almost universal picture of gloom is revealed by
the fourth chart showing firms with clients with the
fastest increasing earnings, calculated by the average
increase in earnings per share. Lansons, at number one
for the second quarter running, shows clients with an
average 9.2% rise all the other figures are negative.
Binns & Co. retains its second place, Tavistock
Communications comes in at number three (unplaced last
time), while Weber Shandwick/Square Mile makes the biggest
jump from eighth place last time to number four this
quarter. Buchanan Communications fell sharply from fourth
to seventh place and Bankside Consultants dropped three
places from five to eight
